When it comes to grass here in North County California, you have two options (for most grasses) Seed & Sod and seed both have advantages and disadvantages. We can make a recommendation to you based on your input and your property. We charge you the same price as you would pay buying it yourself directly from the sod farm! Below is some extra information on both.
Seed:
Advantages:
It is the most cost effective means of installing grass on a property.
Serveral varieties available.
Disadvantages:
Needs to be installed in the warmer months so the seeds can germinate.
Can wash away with water or rains.
Birds and rodents love to eat the seed.
Allows weed seeds time to germinate as well (not a good thing).
Requires very frequent water until the seeds germinate (as much as once an hour depending on temp.)
Sod:
Advantages:
Most expensive means of installing grass on a property.
"Instant grass"
Can install almost year round.
Less likely to have weeds in your grass.
Will not wash away with water or rains.
Birds and rodents won't eat it.
Less initial maintenance.
Disadvantages:
Sod costs much more than grass seed.
More labor intensive.
